The Delayed Entry Program is a period between processing at the MEPS and leaving for BMT. Every applicant that processes for Active Duty Air Force will be in the DEP between 1-6 months.
There are some special occasions that a DEP member will remain in the program for as long as 1 year. A recruiter that has a strong DEP are able to stay attuned to their DEP members and help them when/if issues develop before going to BMT. Some common changes include: such as new boy/girlfriend, new job, or changes with situations at home.
You have just qualified mentally, morally, and physically for the world’s greatest air power by meeting the highest military entrance standards in the United States. Regardless of how the Air Force helps you reach your goals, you have proven yourself eligible in becoming an elite member of our team. The following expectations have been implemented to ensure you experience a smooth transition from civilian to Airman.
Just as I will expect a lot from you, you should expect a lot from me
SUPERVISE It is my privilege to serve as your first Air Force supervisor. The simple fact that you’ve made it this far shows me you're already a notch above the rest and for this reason, I will expect nothing less in your performance, punctuality, honesty, integrity, and professionalism.
TRAIN As your primary trainer, my job is to ensure you are fully prepared to join the Air Force by conducting physical fitness training sessions, benefits and entitlements briefs, Basic Military Training preparation classes, and discussing the overall Air Force lifestyle with you and your family.
ASSIST There's a good chance your basic training date is still a ways away. During your waiting period, I will always be a phone call, email, text message, or office visit away in assisting you and your family with any obstacles that arise until you leave for basic training. Remember that if I'm not notified, there's no way I can help.
LEAD Finally, you should expect me to lead by example at all times by upholding the three Air Force core values: Integrity first, Service before self, and Excellence in all we do.
The purpose of DEP Commander Calls are to keep new members motived and excited about the decision that they have made to join the Air Force. Every DEP member is required to have a face to face follow up with a recruiter once every 30 days. Commander Calls should be motivational, educational, and allow for members to prepare for BMT. You will remain a member of the DEP until you return to MEPS on your Enter Active Duty Date (EAD). This is the date you leave or Basic Military training.
Once you approach your EAD Date you will follow up with your recruiter more frequently. Additional briefings include:
30 Day EAD Brief
15 Day EAD Brief
Final Departure Brief
Dress & Appearence: DEP uniform is your blue Air Force shirt, athletic pants/shorts, and athletic shoes.
For formal events, you will wear your Air Force Shirt, Blue Jeans with no holes, a black belt, and all black to near black shoes.

DEP members have a few responsibilities while waiting for BMT. These responsibilities are:
QUALIFICATIONS Your primary expectation while you're in the DEP is to remain mentally, medically, morally, and physically qualified . Maintaining entry level qualifications is one of the most important things that a new DEP member must understand. Otherwise, all of their hard work will have been for nothing and the Air Force could be losing a valuable member needed to help sustain the mission. Below are some disqualifying examples for DEP members:
Examples of things I should know about!
New Law Violations
Keeping within Air Force H/W standards
Drug use
Pregnancy
Tattoos
STD’s
Financial Issues
Injury or Doctors Visits!
ATTENDANCE You are expected to attend all mandatory DEP functions and are highly encouraged to attend physical training sessions and other planned activities. Ensure you are on time (if not early) to all functions. If you are unable to attend these functions you must clear your absence with me and establish a follow-up date.
JOBS During your waiting period your job and basic training date will be identified. I might call you with additional job opportunities that you didn’t list at MEPS based on your interests so it is important that you remain flexible and available. In addition, you need to be ready to leave for BMT as of the date you selected at MEPS.
PERPETUATE Finally, it is your job to replace yourself in the DEP as you head out for basic training. If you can think of anyone else that could take advantage of the Air Force opportunities, be sure and let me know!
